Eco Church

At St Martin’s we are committed to becoming more sustainable and environmentally friendly. We believe this reflects God’s love for His creation and our desire to live in right relationship with the world He has made. Caring for our environment is also a way of showing love and responsibility to our global neighbours.
As part of this commitment, we are part of the Eco Church initiative, organised by A Rocha UK. Eco Church is a scheme for churches in England and Wales who want to show that the gospel is good news for all of creation. It helps churches integrate creation care into every part of church life as an expression of faithful discipleship. The initiative focuses on five key areas:
- Worship and teaching
- Management of church buildings
- Management of church land
- Community and global engagement
- Lifestyle
Eco Church assesses how churches are progressing in each of these areas and recognises their efforts with bronze, silver, or gold awards. We are currently at Silver.
We are proud to be engaging with this process as part of our mission here in East Horsley. As we move forward, we are committed to building on what we’ve already achieved and continuing to make sustainability a central part of church life — including how we use our buildings and land, how we worship, and how we live out our faith in the wider community.
